Recommendation for Local Attractions
One thing to do while you are staying in Chard would be a trip to the Forde Abbey & Gardens, with over thirty acres of beautiful gardens, rockery, bog garden, arboretum and millions of spring bulbs surrounding one of the oldest inhabited houses in England.
Open from 12pm each day, it is around 15 minutes from the hotel and a return taxi would cost around £25 and can be booked with the hotel reception.
2. Emerald and Gold, The Perfect Gaelic Jaunt -June & September 2019
Roscommon is a centrally located town is in the heart of the Irish Midlands, and with easy access to all corners of the country by bus and rail links it’s the perfect location as a base for your Gaelic Jaunt.
The town itself is a small market town with a range of things to see and do on your free day.
The Castle sits in the centre of Roscommon, easy to access by taxi as it is 30 minutes’ drive away. The walls of the castle can date as far back as 1200 and although something of a ruin, the outer walls still stand, the corners of the castle still have their staircases intact too, so it is easy to envisage what a grand place this once was.
Abbey Hotel 4* - Half Board
Set amid the fantastic surroundings of the old 12th century Dominican Abbey, the 4* Abbey Castle Manor Hotel, is just stunning, the private lawns and gardens give you plenty to uncover every day. If you prefer a bit of relaxation, you can use the spa and swimming pool. When it comes to bedrooms each of the rooms is individually designed and decorated to an exceptionally high standard, giving a classically luxurious edge.

3. Southern Highland Gold and the Edinburgh Tattoo.
Crieff has a reputation for fine dining and family run businesses. It has grown with tourism in recent years and hosts attractions such as the Caithness Glass Visitor Centre, Innerpeffray Library (established c. 1680), Scotland’s oldest lending library, and The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery.
On day 3 of your holiday you will be given a tour of Scotland's oldest working Distillery, The Famous Grouse Experience, is part of a group which makes whiskeys, such as The Macallan, Highland Park and Glenturret. The trip is the best way to see things done the old fashioned way and get a close up look at the whisky making process. Your fully guided tour will highlight the Scottish way of making of whisky, and how to appreciate it more fully as a drink. A favourite part of the tour is seeing the biggest bottle of Whisky in the world! And of course at the end of the tour you can sample a certain number of the whiskys too.
Crieff Hydro Hotel and Resort - Half Board
The Crieff Hydro Hotel and Resort opened their hydropathic spa in 1868, encouraging clean eating, exercise and hydrotherapy treatments. The resort is still family run 5 generations later, and offers guests a relaxing stay, with over 60 activities and to top it off the hotel is set in 900 acres of luxurious estate, perfect for an evening stroll.
The Edinburgh Tattoo
Within the price of your holiday is entrance to the magnificent open air Edinburgh Tattoo. Set with the back drop of Edinburgh castle you are treated to an array of pipes and drums, brass bands and ensembles from all over the world. The first ever Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo was held in 1950 and since then they have brought culture, colour and vitality to their guests.
With it starting at 9pm and finishing at 11pm, the next day you have free time, so can take a long lye in or head into Crieff to visit the local attractions.
