Wonderful Westport & Connemara National Park

8 days Half Board by Coach

Designated one of Ireland’s Heritage Towns, pretty Westport is situated in the shadow of Croagh Patrick Mountain, overlooking Clew Bay. It is one Ireland’s best-loved tourism centres, with many outstanding features, most notably the beautiful tree lined boulevard - known as The Mall, running parallel to the Carrowbeg River. And it’s perfectly placed for exploring Ireland’s wonderful west coast - including Connemara, an area of almost unbelievable natural beauty.

Sunday: From local departure points we head for our overnight stop.

Monday: An early start this morning as we travel to Holyhead for the ferry to Ireland and on to our base for four nights, at the Milltimes Hotel in Westport.

Tuesday: A day at leisure to relax and explore the lovely town of Westport.

Wednesday: Following the gentle shores of Clew Bay we pause to view nearby Achill Island before skirting the Nephon Beg mountain range to reach the town of Ballina. This afternoon we return to Castlebar where we visit the fascinating Irish Museum of Country Life, exploring traditional ways of life between 1850 and 1950.

Thursday: A full day tour of the Connemara National Park. This is one of the wildest spots in Ireland, with contrasting scenery from Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord, to the tranquil lakes and steep slopes of The Twelve Pins and the boggy heathlands that make the region so unique. We visit Kylemore Abbey, a castellated mansion with a pottery and craft centre before returning via Cong, where the ‘Quiet Man’ was filmed in 1951.

Friday: Today we depart Westport and visit the colourful city of Galway, revered
in so many famous Irish songs and poems. Discover the unique Cathedral or simply
enjoy the warm atmosphere of this friendly city before we continue across Ireland for a
final night in the Emerald Isle.

Saturday: This morning we head into Dublin for free time in the ‘fair city’ before boarding our afternoon sailing to Holyhead and on to our overnight stop.

Sunday: We head for home.
