Your Itinerary:SUNDAY: Overnight hotel
Starting with our Door to Door Service, we collect you from home and you are soon on your way to joining your tour coach and fellow travellers. From here we head north to our overnight stop.
MONDAY: Gretna Green & Glasgow
Today we cross into Scotland, taking time to visit Gretna Green, famous for its runaway marriages, before arriving in Glasgow. Here we have arranged a guided sightseeing tour so you can enjoy the best of the city’s culture, architecture and the stunning 12
th century Glasgow cathedral, the oldest building in the city and the most complete medieval church on the Scottish mainland. We stay for two nights in the Glasgow area.
TUESDAY: Edinburgh
This morning we head into Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, where we are joined by our expert guide for a sightseeing tour. After there will be time at leisure to explore this wonderful city from the majestic castle, the famous Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, and bustling Princes Street.
WEDNESDAY: Glamis CastleHeading north we take time to visit Glamis Castle, childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and birthplace of Princess Margaret. This truly ancient castle has experienced over a thousand years of history and was the setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Our journey continues to the ‘granite city’ of Aberdeen where we board our ferry for dinner and an overnight sailing to Lerwick on the Shetland Islands.
THURSDAY: Yell & Unst
After breakfast we meet our local guide for a tour of the Northern Isles – Yell & Unst. Pausing at the vast Sullom Voe Oil Terminal we take the short ferry crossing to Yell with a visit to the Old Haa Museum at Burravoe, which offers a unique reflection on island life. Another ferry takes us to Unst, famous for its many beautiful beaches, views of Muckle Flugga, the most northern tip of the UK and The Skidbladner a replica Viking longship (light lunch included enroute). We make our way to our base in Shetland for the next two nights.
FRIDAY: South & West Mainland
Today we tour the South & West Mainland which offers many scenic delights and attractions. We discover Sumburgh Head, the Viking Jarlshof archaeological site, spanning over 5,000 years, the Croft House Museum, depicting life from the 18
th century, Scalloway with its 15
th century castle and museum telling the story from the earliest settlement to present day. Plus, as an added bonus we have arranged stops at St Ninian's Beach, probably the best on Shetland and a visit to the Tingwall Valley with their famous occupants – Shetland Ponies.
SATURDAY: North Mainland
Checking out of our hotel after breakfast we visit the North Mainland and the coastal villages of Voe and Brae before heading to view the ‘Drongs’ a striking group of jagged sea stacks located off the coast of Hillswick Ness. There is time to visit Wormadale Viewpoint offering breathtaking panoramic views of Whiteness Voe and surrounding landscapes. Our day concludes with free time in Lerwick before boarding our ferry, including dinner onboard, back to Aberdeen.
SUNDAY: V&A Museum
The ship arrives early morning in Aberdeen and following breakfast we take the coastal road passing sandy St Cyrus Beach, Montrose. Arbroath – famous for its ‘Smokies’ to reach Dundee. We visit the impressive shorefront V&A Museum followed by free time to explore. This afternoon we head south to reach our hotel in the north of England.
MONDAY: We return home, concluding your adventure with our return Door to Door Service.
