FULL DAY: Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Llangollen
To Llangollen this morning on the banks of the River Dee where we board the Llangollen Heritage Railway, once a vital artery of the Great Western System. Lovingly restored to its former glory by myriads of dedicated volunteers, you can now enjoy a fabulous ride through one of the most captivating landscapes in Wales. This afternoon, we board our boat for the journey across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the longest and highest cast iron aqueduct on earth - the ‘River in the Sky’.
FULL DAY: Roman ChesterToday we head across the border to reach the Roman city of Chester. Crowned the ‘prettiest city in the world it blends 2,000 years of history with medieval architecture, ancient Roman ruins and, as an added bonus, a highly walkable city centre. Those who wish can take the 2.5 mile walk along the City Walls and it is a magnificent way to appreciate the city and the river. Alternatively, explore the 700 year old unique half-timbered buildings and fine shops in the two-level galleried arcades known as the Rows.
FULL DAY: Snowdonia & Llandudno
We head into the Snowdonia National Park to reach the picturesque mountain village of Betws-y-Coed, situated in dense woodland, surrounded by cascading waterfalls and possessing a Victorian Alpine charm all its own. From here we head into the Vale of Conwy and take time to stop at the Trefriw Woollen Mill, where the machines are driven by a water turbine utilising the power of the River Conwy. Our final visit is to the ‘Queen of Welsh Resorts’, Llandudno, where you can enjoy the superb sea front promenade or venture up the Great Orme for magnificent sea views.
