Congratulations Devon! The home of the Cornish pasty is our third most visit destination, but why is it such a tourist hot spot? We think we know why and we've discovered some unsual facts too.
Devon is a stunning county with 5 official areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 2 National Parks and miles of beautiful coastline.
There is plenty to see and do on the west coast. As well as meandering around the magical countryside and beaches, there are old port towns like Brixham or Dartmouth, there’s stately homes and castles such as Powderham Castle and Coleton Fishacre House, or there’s the South Devon Railway with its famous steam locomotive.
Did you know... Devon has the most miles of road. Devon County Council are responsible for 8,000 miles of road!
If you love all creatures from the sea, then you’ll want to visit the largest aquarium in the UK – the National Marine Aquarium. It is a conservation charity trying to understand the sensitive ocean eco-system to preserve its beauty and all of its habitants.
Did you know... Devon is home to the UK's oldest human! Fragments of a jaw bone were discovered in Torquay and have been dated from 44,200 BC.
