• Stunning Peak District scenery • Chatsworth House • Snake Pass • Ladybower Reservoir • Bakewell • Castleton • Buxton
Full day: This morning we head into the Peak District and visit stately Chatsworth House. Known as the ‘Palace of the Peaks’ the interior rooms are treasure troves of priceless furniture and magnificent paintings. The landscaped gardens feature sculptures, mazes and waterworks including the famous Cascade which falls 600 feet down the hillside.
Full day: Today we discover the High Peak with a memorable journey over Snake Pass as it traverses the heart of the Peak District National Park between the peaks of Kinder Scout and Bleaklow Hill to the shores of Ladybower Reservoir – famed as the practice area for the WWII Dambuster crews. We continue to the favourite tourist centre of Castleton, surrounded by ‘showcaves’, where the famous Blue John Stone is mined.
Full day: This morning we visit Bakewell, a popular tourist centre, located on the River Wye. The many courtyards and independent shops (and bakeries featuring the famous Bakewell pudding!), make this a delightful place to spend some free time. Afterwards we visit the historic spa town of Buxton set 1000 feet up in the Peaks.
