Day 1: From selected local departure points head for the Channel crossing to Calais, then across Belgium into Holland to arrive at Amsterdam and the Prinses Christina for a late supper and our first night on board.
Day 2: We leave the city of Amsterdam behind and cruise on the Rhine Canal and River Waal, through a typical Dutch landscape of meadowland and riverside villages. We pass Nijmegen to join the River Rhine and reach Emmerich, the first town in Germany.
Day 3: A day cruising on the River Rhine, through the Rühr area, to arrive at mighty Cologne, where the magnificent cathedral dominates the skyline as well as the city centre.
Day 4: From Cologne we cruise past the city of Bonn to enter the Rhine Valley area, where we pass vineyard slopes crowned by romantic castles and many colourful wine villages. Our overnight stop is the ancient city of Koblenz, where the Moselle flows into the River Rhine and considered to be the gateway to the terraced vineyards and ruined castles of the Rhine Gorge. The Altstadt (Old Town) invites exploration as does the famous Deutsches Eck or German Corner.
Day 5: From Koblenz we cruise to Boppard, then by coach in the afternoon to the legendary Loreley Rock and on to the popular tourist centre of Rüdesheim before our final night on board in Boppard, once a Roman fort and steeped in the 2,000 year old culture of the Middle Rhine.
Day 6: To Calais for the Channel crossing to England and homeward.
