A Croatian Adventure

12 Days Half Board by Coach

Highlights: Istrian Riviera, Porec, Postonja Caves, Lipica Horse Stud Farm, Pula, Pula Amphitheatre

Croatia has established itself as a stunning alternative to the Mediterranean Islands, where crystal waters and radiant sunshine offer warm and tranquil days amid a welcoming culture that sees tourist numbers grow year on year. The Istrian Riviera, by the shores of the Adriatic, and sheltered by the mountains of neighbouring Italy and Austria, has many attractions from the Roman history of Pula to the inland marvels of the Postojna Caves and the famous white Lipizzaner Dancing Horses.

Itinerary

Thursday: From local joining points cross the Channel and on to our overnight stop.

Friday: We continue through Germany and in to Austria for our overnight stop near Salzburg.

Saturday: This morning we enter Slovenia and pause by the beautiful azure blue waters of Lake Bled before we continue to our hotel by the resort of Rovinj for the next seven nights.

Sunday: A free day to explore Rovinj, where the towering steeple of St Euphemia church stands proud above cobbled streets and tightly packed houses of the old town, easing down to the bay.

Monday: Relax at your hotel today or explore Rovinj at leisure.

Tuesday: A spectacular start as we descend the vast Postojna Caves. A special train takes you deep into the heart of the caves where our guide leads you on a walking tour through the complex network with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites before entering the Grand Chamber - capable of hosting a 10,000 capacity orchestral concert. This afternoon we visit the Lipica Horse Stud, the breeding stud for the classical Lipizzaner Dancing Horses.

Wednesday: This morning we take a half day tour to the resort of Porec with its bustling harbour and attractive medieval centre, amid a relaxed atmosphere beside the crystal clear Adriatic waters.

Thursday: Today we visit Pula, an ancient Roman city, where we visit the first century Amphitheatre, which still to this day holds concerts and performances. We have also included a guided tour of the city to discover the equally ancient 1st century Triumphal Arch and the Temple of Rome and Augustus as well as its magnificent cathedral.

Friday: A final day at leisure to complete your sightseeing in Rovinj or simply take in the last of the Adriatic sunshine at your hotel.

Saturday: Today we leave the Istrian Riviera and return through the mountains and tunnels of southern Austria to reach our overnight stop.

Sunday: Crossing back into Germany for our final overnight stop.

Monday: Crossing the Channel at Calais we return home to our original joining points as our Croatian Adventure comes to an end.
