Cruising to the Black Forest

8 Days Full Board River Cruise

Beyond the mighty Rhine Gorge the great Rhine Valley carves its way along the much disputed borderlands of France and Germany, an area of fierce fighting during the second world war. Whilst the Rhine still symbolises the border, the valley is now a place of surreal peace, tranquility and unrivalled natural beauty. Our cruise upstream captures this unbelievable scenic backdrop perfectly, with some wonderful visits along the way.

Your Itinerary

Sunday: From selected departure points we cross the Channel to Calais and into Germany to reach Cologne in time for a late dinner. Our vessel leaves Cologne late evening to cruise overnight upstream.

Monday: This morning our cruise continues through the spectacular Rhine Gorge, to reach the popular resort of Rudesheim by early afternoon. The rest of the day is free to enjoy the town.

Tuesday: Cruising from early this morning we make a brief stop at Mannheim where we include an excursion to the old university city of Heidelberg, re-joining our cruise ship at Speyer.

Wednesday: This morning we cruise to Rasstadt where the Rhine becomes the border between France and Germany. This afternoon we enjoy a tour by coach into the beautiful Black Forest following the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse (the Black Forest High Road), one of Germany’s most scenic routes. We rejoin our cruise ship across the border in Strasbourg in time for dinner.

Thursday: A full day excursion across the border today as we visit Freiburg, the ‘capital’ of the Black Forest before crossing the Rhine into France and to Colmar, a charming city of canals with a traditional old town, set in the heart of the Alsace region.

Friday: This morning we sail from Strasbourg for a full day cruising, returning downstream to reach Mainz over dinner.

Saturday: A full day cruising as we return through the Rhine Gorge to reach Cologne by mid afternoon

Sunday: We disembark after breakfast to cross the Channel and return home.
