Sunday: From local joining points we make our way north to our overnight stop.
Monday: We continue into Scotland to Gourock and the short ferry crossing to Dunoon and our hotel for three nights.
Tuesday: A memorable day, by winding roads through the hills, and by ferry across the scenic Kyles of Bute, to explore the Isle of Bute. We have a sightseeing stop at the principal town of Rothesay, which has a charming old fashioned atmosphere, then take a circular tour round the island before returning to the mainland. Next we follow a road which is renowned as one of the most spectacular in Scotland to visit the idyllic coastal hamlet of Tighnabruaich, where sailing is the principal activity.
Wednesday: Discovering Argyll’s beautiful scenery today on a full day tour, beside Loch Eck to the shores of Loch Fyne and Inveraray, planned in the 18th century by the Duke of Argyll. Then through a mountainous landscape, to Oban, a major Scottish tourist centre and ferry port for the Hebrides, overlooked by McCaig’s Tower, an imitation of the Colosseum of Rome.
Thursday: Leaving Dunoon we tour by the ‘Rest and be Thankful Pass’ before reaching the shores of ‘bonnie’ Loch Lomond. Here we visit the tourist centre of Luss before driving into the Trossachs National Park, with its tree-lined lochs and forest clad mountains, before heading for our hotel in Grangemouth for two nights.
Friday: A full day to explore Edinburgh today. Scotland’s majestic capital city has so much to offer from the famous castle, dominating the skyline, to the Royal Mile, ending at Holyrood House, the Queen’s royal residence and elegant Princes Street.
Saturday: This morning we make a short visit to Scotland’s second city, Glasgow, with its Victorian elegance yet vibrant atmosphere. This afternoon we continue to our overnight stop.
Sunday: We head for home.
This modern hotel is located in Grangemouth, ideal for reaching Scotland's capital.
