Today the event includes a colourful parade of decorated and illuminated boats floating serenely along the River Derwent, floodlit cliffs and a firework finale.
Half day & evening: After lunch we head for the tourist centre of Buxton, with its gracious 18th century crescents and terraces. We continue to Matlock Bath where there is time to explore this pretty
resort, before watching the parade of illuminated and decorated boats pass along the River Derwent and enjoying the entertainment that takes place in Derwent Gardens all topped off by a spectacular firework display.
Full day: A superb scenic day touring the limestone White Peak area of the Peak District with its deep dales, underground caverns and fields edged with drystone walls. We visit Castleton, overlooked by Mam Tor, the ‘shivering mountain’. Beneath a ruined hilltop castle, the village is surrounded by underground show-caves, where semi-precious Blue John Stone is mined. We continue to Ladybower Reservoir – the Dambuster’s training ground - before returning over the famous Snake Pass.
