• Castletown • Peel • Port Erin • St John’s • Optional railway trip to Snaefell • Laxey • Ramsey
Sunday: From local departure points to our overnight stop.
Monday: Our day begins with a leisurely drive to Heysham for the ferry crossing to Douglas, our base for the next five nights.
Tuesday: A day at leisure.
Wednesday: A half day tour to the historic mining village of Laxey, famous for the ‘Lady Isabella’ - the largest working waterwheel of its kind in the world. An optional trip on the mountain railway to the summit of Snaefell is a scenic delight.
Thursday: A full day circular tour of the north of the island. First to the village of St. John’s, setting of an annual open air Manx Parliament on Tynwald Hill and then on to the fishing port of Peel, which has a ruined castle overlooking the harbour, a traditional Kipper Smokery and antique shops along the alleyways. In the afternoon we make our way to Ramsey, a harbour town and small seaside resort combined, then return to Douglas by the Mountain Road, a thrilling section of the TT motorcycle racing circuit.
Friday: An extended half day excursion to Port Erin, a resort with a beautiful bay sheltered by Bradda Head, which retains an Edwardian flavour, before heading towards the Calf of Man. Then on to Castletown, where medieval Castle Rushen dominates the town and harbour.
Saturday: Today we reluctantly leave this lovely island and cross back to the mainland, before making our way to our overnight stop.
Sunday: Homeward bound.
