There's clean, award-winning sandy beaches, level streets and good shopping, great amusements and attractions, and of course the lovely Lincolnshire countryside is on the doorstep.
No holiday in Skegness would be complete without a visit to the newly refurbished Embassy Centre and Tower Gardens. It is now one of the finest venues of its type in the country, featuring a packed programme throughout the year, including star studded shows summer shows, brass band concerts, and dancing events. Meanwhile the Tower Gardens have been restored to their former Victorian glory and provide a wonderful haven in which to relax on a fine summer's day.
Natureland Seal Sanctuary is well worth a visit too. Located just minutes from the County Hotel it is renowned for its work in rescuing baby seals, rearing them, and then returning them to the sea. And right opposite the hotel are some of the finest bowls greens in the county, where friendly games can be arranged for bowls tours and clubs in the summer months.
Out and about, there's lots to see and do. The lovely Lincolnshire Wolds are a delight to explore, and the peaceful village of Sommersby, home of the celebrated poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, is well worth a visit. Louth is a fine market town, and the ancient cathedral city of Lincoln is just an hour's drive away. A trip over the spectacular Humber Bridge - the largest single span bridge in Britain - makes for an interesting day out too, and to the north of Skegness is Fantasy Island, an all weather attraction for all ages featuring roller coaster rides, amusements and shows.
Lincolnshire has a vast aviation heritage and is renowned as the 'Home of the Royal Air Force'. The county's flat open countryside made it ideal for siting airfields and Lincolnshire became the most important home of Bomber Command during World War Two. At RAF Coningsby it is possible to see the historic aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight; at East Kirby you can view an awarding winning collection of memorabilia including a 'Dambuster' bomb and a Lancaster Bomber, and at Thorpe Camp a former NAAFI has been converted into a tribute to 617 Squadron.
